The Festival of Speed on Tweed in the northern NSW town of Murwillumbah is fast becoming the most popular event on the historic car racing calendar and 2007 will be its 6th anniversary. Drivers vie for the 200 entry places to show off their prized possession.

Drivers and racing enthusiasts numbering over 20,000 converged on Murwillumbah in 2006 in mid-September for the annual historic speed trials. 200 cars challenged each others speed and skill over the 1.4 km street circuit. Check out past results under the “Entries” page at left .

The Festival brings famous cars and famous people to town and you are likely to see some of the biggest names in motorsport having a quiet coffee at a local café or wandering through the Pits at the Showground. Sir Jack Brabham graced us with his presence in 2002 and we hope he returns this year. Our Patron for 4 years was the legendary Frank Gardner who was followed by the equal legendary Vern Schuppan OAM, read about Frank and Vern under “The Festival” page at left . Drivers like John Goss, Kevin Bartlett, Jim Richards, John Bowe, Bob Holden and Denis Geary , just some of the people who played a great role in Australia’s motoring history, are now regular guests of Speed on Tweed.

And it’s not only drivers who take centre stage. Such famous race cars as Jim Richards’ 1982 Bathurst winning Godzilla, a 1985 Ferrari 156 once owned by Michele Alboreto and a Maybach once driven by Stan Jones, father of famous F1 driver, Alan, have all visited Murwillumbah.

Wait until you see what’s in store for 2007 …. !!!

The Festival of Speed on Tweed is a non-profit event run by the Rotary Club of Murwillumbah together with a group of extremely dedicated volunteers. At the conclusion of the event all profits are distributed to pre-selected National and local charities.

The following organisations have received generous donations amounting to over $140,000.00 from Speed on Tweed over the years:

  • Children’s Cancer Institute Australia
